Coffee Ground Bedding is the ideal product for any type of bird! It gives your fowl a place to dust bathe without harmful dust leaving cleans feathers and feet without issue. Our bedding traps all smell along with waste in little clumps for light and simple clean up!
We recommend placing 1-3 inches (about 8 cm) of coffee grounds at the bottom of the coop. You can also put the bedding in nesting boxes if desired.
Once a day or once a week (depending on your available time) run a scoop through the bedding to pick up the clumps. This will take about 5-10 minutes depending on the coop size, the flock size and the frequency of cleaning.
The clumps can be tossed in a bucket or used in your garden! The coffee ground clumps make great fertilizer without the smell!
Add between 1-2 cups (250ml-1 l) of fresh grounds back into the coop to replace the removed grounds.
We recommend a full deep cleaning every 8-12 months as a refresh of the coffee grounds. However if you want a stronger coffee scent, simply clean more often. If you are just looking to remove the ammonia smell, cleaning can be less frequent.
Things to Note
The basics are easy! Start off by dumping a thick layer of grounds on the floor of the coop. Simply scoop to clean and add new to bedding refresh! Cleaning frequency will vary with coop style and as flock numbers are ever changing. Chicken math, we understand!
If not wanting to clean often leaving for a longer period of time will work as well. The grounds will continue to work until all used up like any bedding or litter. This can stay nice up to months at a time depending on your personal situation.
The clumps can be tossed as fertilizer and ground strengthener to gardens, plants, trees etc; Though please do some research on your specific plants as some might not like it.
Some people modify their coops using a thin piece of wood across openings to help keep the grounds inside. This is not required it just might mean you have a small pile at the entrance as the chickens might kick the coffee ground bedding out.
Coffee grounds can be added outside as well as inside. Inside they work as a litter, outside they will work as a ground stabilizer. Both helping to remove smell!
The bag is meant to help you keep the grounds at peak product standards as the fresh bagged grounds must stay dry or they won’t be of any use to you. Each bag comes with a white pull string for easy open and green strings to let you retie the bag.
