Can Coffee Grounds be used as chicken bedding?
Yes! Coffee grounds are a safe and easy way to have an odor-free coop. It is simple to use, simple to clean and now easy to find.
How thick does the initial layer have to be?
We recommend 1-3 inches, or more if desired. The thicker the layer you use, the greater the benefits and the easier it will be to clean since you won’t be scraping the bottom. Read our Product Instructions for full details!
Can I use Grounded Poultry Bedding for other animals?
As of right now only birds. A few examples are ducks, turkey, quail, and of course chickens, but any bird would be able to use it. We do look forward to expanding!
How often do I have to clean the coffee grounds?
This is up to you! We recommend taking a few minutes each day to pull the clumps out for optimal results. Once a day, once a week, 0nce a month, the benefits will still be there! We recommend these scoops for great results.
What if I don't have time to clean the coffee ground bedding?
Clean when you can! You won’t loose the benefits as long as the grounds are still in the coop. You might have to add more grounds or do a bigger full clean more often than someone who does a small clean everyday but find the system that works for you.
Why should I choose coffee grounds?
Benefits galore! Not only is it dust free, recycled and sustainable but it also is warmer, no chemicals, cheaper, simple to dispose of, lighter to move and easier to clean! The biggest benefit of all No Smell!
Is Grounded Poultry Bedding safe for my animals?
It is! Since our grounds are recycled the caffeine in them is reduced. Not only that but it feels like dirt to the birds. You’ll see them scratching and bathing in it but not eating it. If there is concern, try adding a small pile and observe your birds with it.
What if my animal eats the bedding?
It is non-toxic to them. It doesn’t have any nutritional value to them so it won’t benefit them to eat it. Our grounds do not have any added chemicals. If they are eating the grounds possibly try removing and integrating it slowly back in.

Is the coffee ground bedding compostable?
One hundred percent! Add it to your compost pile, garden, flower beds, and trees! We recommend researching what’s best for your plants before adding coffee grounds.
How do I store my grounded coffee bedding?
Keep the unused grounds in the bag they come in. There are strings attached to let you retie the bag as needed. Keep the bag in a dry area to make sure your coffee bedding is ready to absorb the manure and moisture when it’s applied to your coop.
How was Grounded Poultry Bedding founded?
It started out with a sensitive nose and wanting to use chickens to show the value of life at a summer camp. Research was done to find an alternative to help reduce the smell of ammonia and chicken manure. God showed us the coffee grounds and the rest is history!
